On October 19th 2017, Tru Colors Brewing Company hosted an event geared towards discovering local entrepreneurs. The event was based off of ABC’s hit TV show Shark Tank, but what made it different was the fact that all contestants were locals from the Wilmington area and were competing for a loan to start their business instead of sacrificing equity in their company to the panel of three, notable judges.
After sorting through almost 100 applications, Tru Colors was able to narrow the list down to six finalists. Of the six finalists that were selected to compete at Battle of the Bosses, three winners were selected by the panel of judges.
The three winners included Jannette Goodman who is seeking to open a laundromat, Southside Wash, Dry, ‘N More, Tina Nixon with her family-oriented restaurant Carolina Kitchen, and Whitney Hall with her filipino and soul food fusion restaurant, Alex’s Twisted Soul Food.
